Commodore A / Rekord C
"Coke bottle design" is a term you hear time and again in connection with the Opel Rekord C and Opel Commodore A. The elegant curve of the body was inspired in the mid-1960s by the muscle cars from the U.S. that were popular at the time, and quite a few of today’s owners always have an Elvis Presley cassette on hand and a gelled pompadour in their hair. Very few Opel models evoke as much emotion as an Opel Commodore A Coupé, which, for example, does away with the B-pillar entirely. The engines in these models were durable 4-cylinder CIH engines in the Rekord vehicles and silky-smooth 6-cylinder CIH engines in its bigger brother, the Commodore. Equipped with a Confederate flag on the fuel tank beneath the trunk and chrome rims with wide tires, they quickly disappeared from the streets, however. The most common reason—typical for Opels—was rust :-( Yet even today, our fathers and grandfathers still love to talk about these outstanding rear-wheel-drive cars from the ’60s with a twinkle in their eyes—and you know why!
