If the cover of your 4- or 6-cylinder Cih engine is secured with exactly two M8 screws, this paper gasket belongs between that cover and the thermostat housing. This gasket is an excellent reproduction from edelschmiede :-).
By the way, it also fits 2100 D diesel engines
Just below that, by the way, is the thermostat insert, and underneath that there’s another paper gasket. This one is often forgotten as well. You’ll find it here, of course...
