Fresh oil for fresh Opel rear-wheel-drives

Hello fellow Opel rear-wheel-drivers,

I was originally planning on sharing the two-hour interview with Olaf Dobrowolski, from the MVG® Mathé- Schmierstofftechnik GmbH, with you here. However, this interview ended up being such a monster of information that I could hardly fit it all in, which is why we are going to do things a bit differently: Once again, the topic of today’s post will be oil. We have been delivering oil, both for the transmission, as well as for the rear axles of our Opel rear-wheel-drives, since the very beginning of the edelschmiede. What has been missing up until now, despite frequent requests, was engine oil. To finally fill this gap, we have been looking around the market and have found a strong, and more importantly vintage-vehicle compliant, supplier for all of the missing lubricants. Coincidentally, I bumped into my old musician pal Olaf ‘Dobro’ Dobrowolski there, which made everything even more pleasant. We had a very long chat about base oils, band-width oils, mass production, hardware store oils, additives, pressure resistance etc. etc. etc.
The take home message from this dialogue is the following: We absolutely need to have MVG engine oil, as well as a diverse range of MATHY additives and additives in small jars and containers in the edelschmiede, and thus also in our engines, transmissions, rear axles & tanks. With these high-tech fluids, things simply last longer and better. But don’t get me wrong: This isn’t directly about improving our own chances for a longer life, rather for our OHV, cih and 24V engines, so: don’t drink it… 😉

The following new essentials are now in the edelschmiede shop:

Just in time for the season’s end, these items are available for you as of now in the edelschmiede web-shop. After being anointed with these excellent oils and supplements, your Opel rear-wheel-drive will be ready for its well-deserved winter sleep. Or, for the more frost-resistant vehicles, this will make your vintage Opel strong and ready for action in the colder months 🙂

Apart from all that, we also have some other bits of news. At last we have a few new stickers, and on the release bearing front, there have also been some developments. For a few years now (yes, we can say that now 😉 ), we have had an affordably-priced release bearing for the cih clutch on offer. We still have a few of these in stock, but as we have received the occasional complaint, and a release bearing isn’t exactly easy to refit, we have been looking for a better option. Happily, we now have such a part in the shop, an excellent INA release bearing with metal design. Only the sheath on which it runs is made of plastic. This bearing is absolutely top quality, which means you can fit it with a good conscience. For those of you who prefer the really high-end products, we also have a handful of completely metal release bearings from Sachs. These are quite simply a dream 😉 By the way, we also have these for the OHV engine-generation…

Especially for the Kadett C drivers, these days we have another small titbit for you; We have had the rubber liners for the sport mirror, colloquially known as ‘Schweineohren’, reproduced true to the original. The screws are also included, completing the installation set for the sport mirror!

So, I think that’s enough for the moment. I will be getting my own Ascona ready for winter this week, and in doing so I wont just be pouring new oil into the transmission and rear axle, but also the MATHÉ supplements, as I am absolutely convinced that these products are necessary. Besides that, the heater has been lying in the garage since last year, yes, *cough*, the Ascona has yet again completed a season without any heating / ventilation…

Wishing you lots of fun with the ending of the season, see you soon!

Thomas
